Preserve Lathrop Homes - No Market Rate!
Honor the promises the CHA made to Lathrop Homes residents in 1999: Preserve the historic Lathrop buildings for low-income and working class households only. Rehab and lease up Lathrop now. No market rate.
In the last 12 years, CHA’s focus has been on building new housing at mixed-income communities and rehabilitating housing at senior buildings and traditional public housing sites. To date, CHA has completed 85% of the 25,000 Plan for Transformation goal. As we recalibrate the Plan for Transformation, what should CHA focus on with regards to creating 3,800 additional housing opportunities?

The previous centralized location of Robert Taylor Homes and Dearborn Homes, among others in commercially accessible corridors along expressways is dysfunctional. The highest and best use of this land if for commercial and industrial development, and the funds generated could be much more productively employed in providing housing in residential areas with established amenities and stable residential communities.

The CHA has an unwritten rules that residents can not participate in the redevelopment of their communities. This create chaos because tenants are tired at looking at all the resources leave their communities. If CHA is truly about CHANGE, then change the way you don't allow residents to participate in the redevelopment of their communities. Be creative, use existing programs that would teach, trained and certify residents in housing management, construction and etc. Stop allowing general contractors to milk CHA with poor workmanship. Youthbuild, Workforce development training should be implmented in communities that are going through this transformation. This will uplift the individual and sustain their communities.

There is a piece of land on 876 N. Mozart that is not being used. Our community is interested in making it a community garden in order to strengthen and grow the relationships our neighbors share.

Know your Chicago history and study sub-divisions of yesteryear. There is a mix of apartments and single family housing. Of the many benefits of this type of plan is a moderate density of people. Simply study areas of Chicago like Hyde Park, Ravenswood, and so on. Examine how they are laid out. And one last thing, please do not demolish older structures that are of sound construction. They only bring character to the neighborhood. Cheers and thank you for caring for the people.

Homes could be paid off sooner without interest bearing financing. Minimize the cycle of generations on program, property passed to heirs. Build families in the community. Make families home owners instead of life long renters With Land Contracts there can be no equity until home ownership (end)
Another option if families are having difficulty qualifying for mortgages

Density of current low income will not attract any market rate buyers and then we are back to high density public housing. In order for the low income to work, it needs to diluted with a high concentration of market rate units. Also, without a public education plan, putting all of those residential units in one area will not be successful. Our neighborhood is completely underserved regarding public education for the current population, adding more people will not be possible without education being addressed.

Perhaps senior swimming/exercise/activities centers. Just a thought. Here's another. Advise on Medicare, medicaid and supplimental insurance advocates or affordable travel for seniors and mixed income communities with saving plans for it.

Either move every CHA res in Bronzeville to new State St development or stop buidling it. Do you want to bring South Loop and Kenwood up or down as well as Bronzeville. Poor does not mean criminal. CHA does mean both. Bad idea whose time to end has come.

This day in age is very messed up.No jobs, low education and keeping there minds in the box without the thought of living outside the box. Meaning, if you give someone in CHA that works to work into getting something better not just a house but too move up into a mixed income unit with the working environment with a better housing space. Help those that are really trying to help themselves.

The number of CHA units in mixed income developments have to be reduced in order to be attractive to market rate buyers. It should be reduced from 33% to 13%. CHA should stop building housing units. If public assistance is needed for housing use all the saved monies from administrative costs, maintenance costs, security costs, liability costs, etc to subsidize short term rentals throughout the entire state. This would help disperse public housing's inherent gang problems throughout the entire state diluting the gangs' control over specific areas. Law enforcement would be more able to cope with gang problems because of their lack of control over a specific neighborhood.
